Our Story

Born from a collaboration between two friends, Forme et Matière is a Paris-based studio rooted in a shared love of form, material, and quiet transformation. Led by Julie Baird, the studio cultivates a sensibility for the imperfect, the aged, and the beautifully utilitarian.

Each project reflects an appreciation for tactile history—whether through sourcing vintage and antique objects, refining retail and hospitality spaces, or collaborating with artisans on bespoke details. FM's approach is guided by restraint, layering, and longevity, with an emphasis on subtle interventions that honor what already exists.

Forme et Matière exists somewhere between the considered and the found. It is not about erasure or trend, but about drawing out atmosphere through texture, patina, and placement.

Meet the Founder

Forme et Matière was created by Julie Baird, whose global path—spanning major cities in the United States and Europe—shapes her approach to sourcing and curation. Her work in hospitality, fashion, and executive operations exposed her to environments where detail, materiality, and atmosphere mattered, gradually forming her perspective on objects with presence and longevity. Now based in Paris, she brings that sensibility to Forme et Matière, selecting objects for their presence, material honesty, and quiet simplicity.
